ONCE IN ROYAL DOULTON'S CITY

In 1996 we wrote our second Christmas show, "Once in Royal Doulton's City".

This was a Potteries version of the Nativity story, containing some really excruciating parodies of well-known carols! ("Our May from Alsager", "We Three Queens" etc)

Liz Holland joined us in this and co-starred with Dave in the lead roles of Sharon and Darren, making their weary way  to the town of "Bursleyhem" ... and you can guess the rest. (Actually, you probably can't!)

We were also joined by Kate Tebby from Radio Stoke, Malcolm Hargreaves played with his organ, and our old mates Pete Hall and Bob Dring (at different times) took the demanding part of the "Third Queen".

Meanwhile Jeff was the narrator, and played the odd character part.

We did the show at Biddulph Folk Club in 1996 and 1997 and also performed it on Radio Stoke. We have never toured it as we always felt that it was too local to the Potteries, but we still do one of the songs in our Christmas set - "Good Hidings from Scumthorpe and Roy"! ("God Bless You Merry Gentlemen", in case you were wondering.)
